Sussex County, England, the Beginnings

Our story begins in the historic county of Sussex, located in Southeast England, with roots tracing back to AD 400; Sussex was known as the Kingdom of Sussex from the fifth to the ninth centuries. Historically, Sussex leaders divided the county into East and West Sections. Before the Roman invasions, Sussex was inhabited by the Atrebates, a Belgic trib. The Roman conquest of Britain eventually followed, but in the fifth century, Roman forces withdrew, leading to migrations from Germany. These migrations established the kingdom of the South Saxons, a dominant force over other Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms.
